The City Ritual – Kulturhuset/Sergel Square, Stockholm, every day at 12:00 PM, January 1, 1996 – December 31, 1998.

stadsritualenThe woman who performed the ritual hangs up a small brass bell for each of the 1096 days that made up our three years. She is clothed in a shimmering long gown (covered with cut-up CD-discs) and carries out a number of simple but very exact movements. The event is about 12 minutes long. The time is the classic 12:00 PM, when the bells ring at Klara Church, and the parade of the guards echoes faintly from Hamngatan/Kungsträdgården.

The woman and Sergel Square were photographed automatically every day by two cameras attached to the facade of the LRF Building. These photographs, together with the diary entries she wrote after each ritual, were placed in the spiral stairway of the Cultural Center every month, starting with the 5th floor. The exhibition reached the ground level at the end of 1998.
